Perfect Dark … would you believe it came out May 22nd, 2000.

perfect-dark-n644-429x300

I didn't even know about any of this. I knew the game came out in 2000, but I didn't know it was this soon. And with all the rapture nonsense going on today, this historic game is unfortunately lost to a lot of people. So rather than lament about the game that I didn't play all that often back in the day (sorry console kids, I was too heavily invested in playing games on the PC and emulation at the time) I'll leave those memories up to you. And no, that awkward Xbox 360 outing doesn't count. The version of Joanna Dark ... while impressive ... doesn't match up to the original.

And another thing, apparently the model Michele Merkin portrayed her at one point. I would've voted for Milla Joovovich personally because this Michele woman doesn't quite cut it for me. But there's a few Maxim shots of her in here because she's still damned impressive. Hell, she even got a spot in the Retro Gaming Roundup show as one of the Top 10 Hottest Video Game Babes for this month.

For those of you who for whatever reason haven't played this excellent shooter, it can be found on the Xbox Live Arcade for a small price. And if you want it to look like the Nintendo 64 version is fairly easy. Just get out your old composite cables that came with your system, hook it up THAT way ... then spit on your screen and smear it around. Unfortunately, due to the fact that this game pushed the Nintendo 64 WELL beyond it's limits, there's not a whole lot you can do to cut the frame rate by 1/3.

And be sure to play it multiplayer as well, because that's where it really shines.

And if you're worried about the rapture, don't worry. It's not going to happen. Hit the jump for a smattering of pictures that I find interesting regarding this kick-ass female video game lead.

I was on a podcast, still haven’t gotten mine out there though.

Yeah yeah, I know I haven’t done a Wasted Seconds podcast in a while. It’s not dead, I just don’t like the idea of doing a podcast by myself and it’s hard to find people to do the show WITH where time schedules don’t conflict. I was about to record the new episode yesterday, but my daughter showed up, and she’s a higher priority than the internets.

BUT Monday morning I joined Critical Failure on his podcast over at Tiger Claw Radio “Episode 49 – Dhalamar”

Naturally because I was on it there’s an explicit tag … even though I don’t think the word “shit” is a naughty word. :) But yeah, go and check that out. And I’ll get the new episode of the Wasted Seconds podcast out there one of these days. If you wanna listen to the previous episodes, head on over to the site that specifically dedicated to the show. Which I may eventually move here once I get the time. You can also subscribe to both mine and Critical Failure’s on iTunes and whatnot.

RetroforceGO! Podcast Archive

This was the REASON I started listening to podcasts in the first place, and I was very sad to see it go. I’m constantly hearing about people not being able to find the archive of the shows … even though 30 seconds on Google turned up a torrent. So I’ve spent a large amount of time uploading them all right here for you people to easily download. To the best of my knowledge, this is every single episode of RetroforceGO! and is a great listen for anyone who is into retro gaming. The credit goes to whoever originally put up the torrent (which I will have a link to for those who want to take advantage of it) and this particular text file was in it :

“RetroforceGO!

Episodes 1-43 and 45-75 provided by craineum of Destructiod forums.
Episodes Zero, 44 and 76-87 provided by odber of Destructoid forums
Episodes 88-100 provided by Destructoid website.
Initial torrent provided by craineum.
Repacked and reissued by Butternine.

If you're downloading this you probably already know what the show's about :)

Special thanks to odber and craineum for providing the majority of episodes and for making this possible.  Thanks!

Enjoy!
Butternine”

So yeah, hit the jump for the downloads, there are (technically) over a hundred episodes here and the total size is around 10GB … so bear that in mind. And don’t hesitate to leave a comment about the show, or if there are any dead links and the like (I’m adding these the old fashioned way, so there may be some typos here and there that I will fix as I because aware of them). Just please remember, this is not MY show, I’m merely a fan. :)

*UPDATE* I forgot to add the link to episode 100, so it's there now.
*UPDATE Part 2* For some reason, the episode 59 that was in the torrent wasn't complete. I uploaded the full episode. Thanks to "ptepid" for the link.
*UPDATE*  Episode 90 link fixed.

Episode 2 of the Wasted Seconds podcast is up.

I figure I’ll put a post regarding it up on here every other show (because they don’t always fall into episodes). And I may eventually permanently migrate it over here. I don’t really know yet, because the podcast is it’s own beast. I will say this, beware : the people who have talked to me either in person or at least in chat (or if you follow my Twitter at all) know that I’m an extremely raunchy person. Therefore, the podcast is definitely explicit. So be mindful of where you listen to it. But you can check out episode 2 “You ignored me for THAT?” as well as the other two episodes and a Red Dead Redemption spoilercast for those of you who have either beaten the game or are comfortable with spoilers at the Wasted Seconds Podcast site. Right now it’s me, Josh Campos and Justin Smith … and hopefully one of these days we’ll get an episode going where EVERYONE is on at the same time.

And for those brave souls who want to be on it as well, just get ahold of me. I’m sure we can work something out. Unfortunately, there is no SET recording time, so no promises there. :)

Did you know there’s also a podcast?

angrywomanwithcomputeroj8

I do most of the stuff regarding telling people about stories and whatnot for the site through twitter. And more recently a Facebook page (just search for Wasted Seconds on Facebook) so for those of you who are either new or don’t follow that stuff now there is a podcast for the site which covers … well … games. Just me a couple of friends with possibly the occasional brave guest host or something and we just sit and talk about games. We just got done releasing the PROPER episode 1 named “We finally did it” where we talk about Split/Second, Modnation Racers, Red Dead Redemption (of which there will be a separate Spoilercast coming up in a couple of days purely for that game), video game tits, a little history of gaming according to yours truly and a lot more crammed into almost 2 hours worth of show.

There are also episodes 0 and 0.5 … episode 0 is just an introduction episode where everyong kinda says “Hi!!!” for an hour and a half. And episode 0.5 is all about what Josh found interesting about E3 since I don’t follow it … with the exception of Killzone 3. :D

You can find it right here at http://podcast.wastedseconds.com. And we’re also on iTunes, and you can subscribe right here. We’ve technically got three episodes in the bag, though we’re only on episode 1. Go and check it out and rate, comment, all that good stuff.

But yeah, it’s just me, Josh (Rapture) and Justin (xxmilkman69xx) shooting the shit about video games and other stuff that happens to catch out interest. Pretty much like the site. Except I’m a bit more free to talk about the women than they are because they’re both spoken for and I’m not. Technically.

Anyway, listen away. You can email the show at [email protected] or leave a voicemail number at (618) 984-5244. And, while this site doesn’t have any forums I’ve decided to kinda adpot the forums over at http://www.GameGavel.com, home of … well … Game Gavel which is an alternative to eBay for buying and selling video game stuff and the awesome Retrogaming Roundup podcast. The monthly 5 and a half hour opera of retro/classic gaming goodness that even modern gamers should listen to.

The Complete Computer History Museum Commodore 64 25th Anniversary program

I, unfortuantely, in the early 80's didn't have a Commodore 64 or any of the more capable computers of the time. I had an IBM PC with the green screen display, so I missed out on a lot. But regardless of what kind of computer you had when you were younger whether it be Atari, Spectrum, Commodore, IBM, Apple, whatever ... I'm watching it now and it's a great video.

Garrymon - The most bizarre use of the Half-Life 2 engine I’ve ever seen.

This is apparently the first episode of a Pokemon spoof using Gary's Mod. And all I have to say is "What ... the ... hell ..."

Definitely worth a watch though, if nothing else to watch the faces contort into these bizarre positions and, of course, the "GabeDex".

Fan made Final Fight movie trailer

If only this was a real movie. Don’t fuck with the mustache, yo.

I hope they make more of this with fight scenes.

And if you don’t know what Final Fight is, then what are you doing here.  Go get it. It’s out for damn near everything. You can probably find the butchered SNES version on the Wii’s virtual console if that’s your style. And I’ve heard it may be coming to XBLA soon too, or at least a version OF it.

Sure, Streets of Rage was better, but in the end Final Fight has a special place in my black little heart because it was faster paced.

Watch the video, and then go play it. I’m sure if you’re a cheap bastard you can snag an emulator somewhere.

Super Mario Bros on an 8×8 RGB LED

It's still in the extremely early stages, but I'm definitely interested in seeing how this goes. And hopefully once it gets a little further along the guy releases the code for the game itself, because this looks like it'd be pretty fuckin' cool. You can check out the rest of the article right here.

But yeah, I would definitely be into trying to build something like this, though I would have to get someone else to do the soldering because I can't keep my hands steady enough to reliably do it myself. Either way, pretty cool stuff and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

It looks like one of those old school LED handheld games, only on a hell of a lot of steroids. That reminds me, I've gotta get some of those. I remember loving them when I was a kid. Either way, check out the video.

Creepy craigslist ad for a female Gamestop employee

Here's a link directly to the ad itself : GameStop Girl, I want to kill robotic zombie terrorists with you - m4w ... which yes, I'm well aware that it's old as dirt. But it's still funny and creepy at the same time.

It kind of make me think about an absurdly cute girl that either works or used to work at my local gamestop and the kind of shit she gets from some of the guys that go in there.

But yeah, here's the ad.

Dearest GameStop Girl,

When I walked into your store that fateful Tuesday, I expected only to find a smattering of half-decent titles tucked back there amongst the used 360 games. Instead I found you, surrounded by a beam of light, halfway between Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 3. Your gorgeous dark hair was radiant in contrast with the rainbow of colors on the deluxe Bioshock behind you. The Game of the Year held no interest for me when I saw you look up and smile, even though both could hold me in Rapture.

You commanded the register when it was my turn to check out with the Orange Box. Yes, I was finally getting to play Portal. Lucky me, you said with the cutest smile. Lucky me, I thought, and then knew you had the Portal to my heart. I could care less if the cake is a lie, I'd still want to share it with you.

Oh GameStop Girl, how you make my heart meter skip a beat. If you were being held captive in a mountain fortress by a ruthless mutant mafia gangboss and I had to fight my way through 16 levels of fire-breathing undead ninjas with swords the size of small ponies, I would find a way, even if, after every level, a small man continued to taunt me by saying that you were in another castle. EVEN IF.

So, yes, GameStop Girl, I want to kill robotic zombie terrorists with you. You can even have the deluxe shotgun with explosive scattershot. I'll just use this knife over here. I'll do anything for you, just for the small, slightest chance that someday - someday - you and me could be a Wii.
