StickyTweets v0.5.6 released with Direct Message support

I was constantly on the hunt for a program to replace TweetDeck with for my Twitter needs. Now, don’t get me wrong, TweetDeck is great. It has all the features I need, but the notebook I’m on only has 1GB of RAM, with an amount taken out for video memory. So TweetDeck constantly suckingout over 100MB of RAM with Firefox hogging even more along with Digsby is kind of a hassle. Blame that mostly on Adobe Air. Anyway, like I said, I’m constantly on the hunt for an application to replace it with. That’s when I found StickyTweets one day a while back. It’s an extremely lightweight Twitter client that only needs Windows XP SP 2 or better. No additional libraries, no nothing.

Now it is quite basic, but as of today it is one very large step closer to replacing TweetDeck entirely for me. It added Direct Message support. And with it’s recent addition of multiple accounts support, it’s one step closer to being my default Twitter client. There are still some things as of this writing that are still a little bit of a pain. Mostly little things like having to manually switch accounts when I want to post from one or the other. And I can’t see my outgoing Direct Messages in the application itself. That’s going to keep me from using the thing completely full time because I tend to forget when I send Direct Messages most of the time. :)

But the fact that the thing is using a little under 6MB of RAM makes it a great alternative for someone like me who doesn’t exactly need the heavy featureset of bigger applications like TweetDeck. Go and download it here, it’ll download a single executable, and that’s literally all you need. It’s still being worked on, and it’s got it’s quirks and annoyances, but it’s definitely getting there and worth checking out.
