Unreal Tournament has aged beautifully.
This sucker has still got it. I've been playing this game on and off ever since it came out, and it still holds up. Tons of game types, roughly 10 years worth of user made maps and tons of other stuff. The only reason I can think of why you don't have this game is that you're not used to the insanely fast paced nature of this. It has everything you could ever want, is dirt cheap, and has only gotten better with age. And people STILL play this today. I just got done with an online game where some insanely good players wiped the floor with me.
Fuck Halo. Fuck Call of Duty and Gears of War. This series is where it's at. There has never been a bad Unreal Tournament game. And UT99 will run on pretty much ANYTHING. And the draw for me back in the day was the fact that when I got it, I didn't have a 3D card (which Quake 3 Arena needed to run) ... so I played this until I got a 16MB Voodoo 3, then got Q3A and played them both.
If they released this on XBLA I would definitely be a happy camper and I'd most like get rid of Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War because I just wouldn't bother with them anymore ... not that I play them all that much to begin with. Get on Steam, or Good Old Games and snag it if you like fast paced, fun arena shooters. That's all there is to it.
There I'm done with my rant.
*UPDATE* Here's the free demo for you non believers out there (something that unfortunately isn't on Steam). It's a small download and has a fair amount of maps considering it's a demo, and some mutators like all rocket launchers (my personal favorite) all shock rifles, instagib, etc etc. It's only 55MB so you have no excuse. Then pony up the pennies it costs at places like Gold Old Games and Steam. And don't worry about whether or not you can run it, it'll run on practically anything. This is the original demo from when the game was released from what I understand.
